Glöckler-Alpenverein Stainacher

Grimming-Donnersbachtal

According to ancient tradition, the Glöcklerlauf drives away evil powers at the end of the Raunächte and positively influences the good spirits for a healthy, fruitful year.

In the 1930s, this custom came from Franz Zehentleitner, who originated from Ebensee in Upper Austria, to Stainach in the Enns Valley.

Every year on January 5th at 7:30 PM, the traditional Glöckler run takes place at the main square in Stainach, which originally comes from Upper Austria. The so-called "Glöckler" or "Schönperchten" scurry through the darkness with their light caps, usually in star shape.

After darkness falls, the Glöckler move through all the districts divided into passes. At first, only the sound of bells can be heard, and later, at the main square, all about 200 Glöckler gather in their white garments, with each of the 15 passes representing associated symbols. Both the "Great Church Year" and the "Little Church Year," as well as zodiac signs and motifs from the Stainach area, foremost the Grimming, are represented.

During the Advent on the Pürgg, there is also a run.
