Schutzengel Kirchtag

Su., 06.09.2026 from 09:00 o'clock

Archduke Johann was already dancing at the Kleinsölker Schutzengelkirtag in 1819.

“Thank you, dear God, for this blessed alpine summer”

The church day starts at 09:00 a.m. with a holy mass in the church of Kleinsölk. Afterwards, locals and visitors can enjoy the traditional early beer, framed by various music bands and groups, with food and drink. Special treats at this event include the “Steirerkrapfen”, the “Woazane Krapfen” or the “Raunkerl”, but other local dishes will also be served.

A special highlight of the event for many years has been the traditional alpine cattle drive from the Tuchmoaralm at around 11:00 a.m., which leads the alpine farmers Viktoria and Karl Brandner along with their family right through the church day. The cattle is accompanied by the festively decorated horse carriages of the Maderebner and Schupfer families, as well as Fritz Hans. To properly celebrate the successful and damage-free alpine season and to thank the “Lord” for the alpine time, farmer Viktoria decorates her cows with a self-made headdress.

With these unique “crowns”, the grey cattle herd, an old breed of farm animals, shines over the entire church day. The whole extended family gladly helps during the alpine drive and brings the grazing cattle safely back to the barn. For the young “future farmers”, the alpine drive is often the highlight, and the days leading up to it are eagerly counted. Upon arriving in the center of Kleinsölk at noon, farmer Viktoria also hands out homemade Raunkerln, a local sweet, to the onlookers.

In addition to culinary specialties, there are also a variety of old handcrafted items at the church day, such as carvings and metalwork.

The various “stands” at the church day are operated by local associations. Each stand offers something different to admire or taste. The free shuttle service running until 6:00 p.m. brings visitors from their cars to the festival grounds and back.

Program:
  • 09:00 a.m. holy mass with musical accompaniment
  • followed by the tapping of the beer and early beer with numerous music groups
  • around 11:00 a.m. traditional alpine cattle drive from the Tuchmoaralm
