The Via Artis Bad Aussee follows in the footsteps of important personalities through the centre of cultural life in the Ausseerland region. This hike combines the beauty of the landscape with the spiritual depth of the artists who made the Salzkammergut their place of inspiration. The trail is part of the four Via Artis routes in the Ausseerland region (Bad Aussee, Grundlsee, Altaussee and Bad Mitterndorf) and connects self-contained stages to form a harmonious whole.

The starting point is in the spa gardens, which also mark the geographical centre of Austria – a central location in the hiking paradise of Ausseerland. Passing the first stop on the Via Artis Bad Aussee (Archduke Johann and Anna Plochl), the route crosses the Mercedes Bridge and then the E-Werk Bridge to reach the Hugo Cordignano Promenade. After the Protestant church on the left, the second stop on the Via Artis Bad Aussee (Alfred Komarek) is located on the right.

After a few metres, turn right onto Lößlpromenade, at the end of which you will find Villa Gentiana on the left, the third stop on the Via Artis Bad Aussee (Friedrich Ritter von Lößl). Follow Bahnhofstraße a few metres to the right and cross the road after Villa Eichelhof. Climb the Gielge steps between Villa Eichelhof and the Pürcher paint shop. At the top of the Gielge steps is the fourth stop on the Via Artis Bad Aussee (Hans Gielge).

After the Gielge steps, continue a few steps to the right and then immediately turn left into Sixtleitengasse. After the steep section of the road, follow the road to the right towards the Sixtleite viewpoint. The fifth stop on the Via Artis Bad Aussee (Gustav Mahler) is located between the Martens Villa and the viewpoint. Follow the forest path and, above the Martens Villa, turn left again onto a narrow path and walk back to Sixtleitengasse. Follow this for approx. 200 m until you reach the sixth stop on the Via Artis Bad Aussee (Lilli Baitz).

At Billa, cross the Salzkammergut federal road B145 and follow Sommersbergseestraße to Teichschloss. After a short break at Jan's Jausenhütte, turn into Wilhelm-Kienzl Straße and, at the highest point of the road, turn left onto Teichstraße. The Reiterer Plateau now shows itself from its most beautiful and panoramic side – at the 7th station of the Via Artis Bad Aussee (Richard Eybner), you can admire the wonderful mountain panorama with Loser, Trisselwand, Ausseer Zinken, Dachstein and Sarstein. The meadow path leads past the Narzissen Vital Resort and continues along Rossegger-Weg to the G'sund und Natur Hotel Die Wasnerin and the 8th station of the Via Artis Bad Aussee (Wilhelm Kienzl).

After the hotel, continue right along Sommersbergseestraße. After the small wooded area, you will find the 9th station of Via Artis Bad Aussee (Max and Hugo Cordignano) on your right. Keep an eye on your left for Sarstein, Dachstein and Ausseer Zinken as you follow Sommersbergseestraße for approx. 1 km, then turn right into Fischgasse. After the wooded area, the path leads slightly downhill and then continues to the left towards Brennerlacke. After approx. 150 m, turn left onto Wiesenweg towards Lenau Hill. The 10th station of Via Artis Bad Aussee (Nikolaus Lenau) is located at the highest point of Lenau Hill.

Continue along Lenau Hill and then turn right into Voglbichlgasse. Follow Voglbichlgasse for approx. 500 m and cross the Salzkammergut federal road B145 at the old fire station of the Reitern fire brigade. The path continues via Hiasngasse to Gotschmanninstraße. Then follow the meadow path and then the forest path to the Altausseer Traun. Walk along the Klaus-Maria-Brandauer-Promenade, always along the Altausseer Traun towards Bad Aussee. In the Praunfalk district, cross the Altausseer Traun via the Hausersteg bridge and continue to Altausseer Straße, crossing it. The 11th station of the Via Artis Bad Aussee (Adele Schreiber) is located at Gasthof Elisabeth.

Now walk up Emil-Ertl-Weg to the Obertressen district. When you reach Sigmund-Freud-Straße, cross it and follow the meadow path to the 12th station of the Via Artis Bad Aussee (Hugo von Hofmannsthal). At the Hofmannsthal lime tree, you have definitely earned a short rest and can also enjoy the view of the Dachstein, Ausseer Zinken and Sarstein mountains.

The meadow path leads past a few houses to Obertressenstraße and along Emil-Mariot-Weg back to Sigmund-Freud-Straße. Continue left along Frank-Thieß-Gasse and Himmelsleiter back to the centre of Bad Aussee.
