New from autumn 2026: Padel hall in Leoben
From autumn 2026, the range of sporting activities in Leoben will be expanded with a new Padel Performance Centre. The Styrian sports company Tapedesign is investing just under 400,000 euros in the new venue on Kärntnerstraße. The opening is planned for September 2026 and is subject to the completion of regulatory procedures.
The premises of the former bouldering hall will be transformed into classic doubles courts, as well as the region’s first dedicated singles courts. These will allow for two-player matches and offer additional opportunities for beginners, singles players and technical training. The premium courts installed are designed for both recreational sport and international professional tournaments.
The sporting programme will be complemented by sessions with qualified coaches, tournaments and events. Partnerships with schools, clubs and businesses are also set to form part of the centre’s operations. Changing rooms, catering facilities, a sports shop, vending machines and a staffed reception area complete the infrastructure.
New from October 2026: Sakura Spa at the Asia Hotel & Spa Leoben
With the new Sakura Spa, the Asia Hotel & Spa Leoben will be expanding its wellness offering from autumn 2026 to include a dedicated retreat area for hotel guests aged 16 and over. Around 1.5 million euros are being invested in the new building. Covering approximately 550 square metres, the facility will feature a garden sauna, a Sakura Lounge with relaxation areas, a tea bar and a landscaped outdoor area right by the River Mur. Completion is scheduled for September 2026.
The new wellness area complements the existing Asia Spa and creates additional capacity for overnight guests. The public Asia Spa will continue to be available to hotel guests without restriction and is included in the room rate. Access to the Sakura Spa is via the existing sauna garden and a dedicated access system. Subject to availability, day visitors may also use the new area as part of a Sakura Spa VIP package.
At its heart is a garden sauna heated to around 95 degrees, accommodating approximately 40 people. Panoramic windows offer views of the surrounding greenery, whilst ergonomic birchwood loungers and an automated aromatic infusion function complete the facilities. The Sakura Lounge offers relaxation areas for a total of around 80 to 85 guests, featuring various lounging areas and sheltered lounging alcoves.
A tea bar with a samovar and a selection of Asian-inspired teas, including jasmine, cherry, green and white tea, rounds off the offering. In the landscaped Augarten, additional lounging areas, a sun terrace and secluded spots under the trees are being created. Shower and toilet facilities, as well as the option to change towels, are also available.
The new building will be constructed as a low-energy building. A photovoltaic system and an air-source heat pump will support resource-efficient operation. The official ground-breaking ceremony took place on 1 April 2026, with construction commencing on 7 April 2026. The property owner and investor is AU-Vision Entwicklungsgesellschaft m.b.H.
New from autumn 2026: Indoor playground & bouldering hall in Leoben
With a new indoor playground, an expanded bouldering hall and an adventure café, a new facility for families as well as sports and leisure visitors is taking shape at Prettachfeld in Leoben. Subject to planning permission and the progress of construction, the opening of the multifunctional indoor complex is scheduled for late autumn 2026.
The centrepiece of the ground floor will be a jungle-themed indoor playground. A variety of play options are planned, including bouncy castles. An integrated adventure café will be arranged so that parents can keep an eye on the play area. In addition to the usual food and drink options, healthy snacks will also be available. The existing facilities for children’s birthday parties are to be expanded at the new location.
On the first floor, the bouldering hall (formerly Boulderpoint on Kärntnerstraße in Leoben) is being rebuilt and expanded. The climbing wall area alone will increase by around 60 square metres compared to the previous location, to over 700 square metres. In addition, the new location offers opportunities for further outdoor activities. Among other things, a climbing wall on the external façade is being considered.
The hall complex covers a total of around 800 square metres. In addition to an indoor playground, a bouldering area and office space, there is a further hall measuring around 200 square metres available for additional use. A proposal from the sports sector is being sought for this purpose.
New from winter 2026: Snow Farming at the Energie Steiermark Erzberg Arena
With the introduction of snow farming, Energie Steiermark Erzberg Arena in Eisenerzer Ramsau is investing in the further development of its Nordic skiing facilities. The aim is to prepare the cross-country trails, ski jumps and biathlon area even more flexibly for varying weather conditions in future, thereby providing the best possible support for training and competition activities.
The structural foundations were already laid in autumn 2026. In future, around 15,000 cubic metres of natural snow will be preserved over the summer months. To achieve this, the snow will be covered with insulation film, glacier fleece and silage film. The material is designed for use over several years and enables resource-efficient preservation. The snow will be spread as required at the start of the winter season. The aim is to safeguard the quality of the Nordic infrastructure in the long term.
