About the region

7 Heavenly Places
Hohentauern is the perfect place to go on hiking and mountain tours of all levels of difficulty, to explore mountain bike trails and discover leisurely cycle paths. Here you will find seven heavenly places that present nature at its best. Be it the crystal-clear Scheibelsee, the rippling waterway or the magnificent flora and birdlife. Let yourself be enchanted by the unspoilt nature of this region.

Show mine with slide fun
Mining magnesite and graphite was important in Hohentauern. Today, an exhibition mine reminds us of this. Walk through the show gallery and the mountain arena, and take the stairway to heaven to reach the climbing arena. There you can enjoy the sun's rays before descending steeply down a 70-metre-long slide. Fun and adventure are the focus of this experience. A forest nature trail and a water trail lead here. On these trails, nature is to be understood with all the senses. Touching energetic stones, drinking the fresh, clear mountain spring water, smelling rare plants and marvelling at unique wildlife will make your heart race.

Minigolf on the mountain
The mountain adventure golf course promises an amusing experience in the midst of beautiful nature. With 18 different stations, it takes you through the year on the mountain pasture. Hit the ball into the cow's mouth, play across the ski slope or discover the gloomy mining pits as a golf course. A surprising pleasure for the whole family.

Winter sports
In winter Hohentauern is ideal for all winter sports enthusiasts. You can train your endurance on the 13 kilometres of cross-country skiing trails. When the weather is snow-sure, you can explore the most beautiful slopes on a leisurely skiing tour. If you don't feel like skiing anymore, you can still go sledding on the cross-country trails or simply enjoy the vast nature when you go touring. So far, I'm sure not many people have tried snowshoeing - but why not? The signposted trails make it easy for you to get started with this new sport. Do as the Austrians do and take a deep breath of the clear mountain air - stress and hectic seem far away here! Of course, your physical well-being is also well catered for: many restaurateurs invite you to eat fresh fish or a hearty Brettljause (snack) - what could be better than high enjoyment on the mountain?
