Hochlantsch Round with Bärenschützklamm

Closed
ATTENTION:The Bärenschützklamm remains closed until further notice after the serious accident in 2020. The reopening is planned for autumn 2023. Entering the gorge is prohibited and life-threatening!

Hike the 1720 m high Hochlantsch, the highest mountain in the region. The Bärenschützklamm gorge with its countless ladders and wild waterfalls and Schüsserlbrunn are certainly the highlights of this tour.

The starting point is the Teichalmsee, which is surrounded by idyllic alpine pastures in the middle of the Almenland Nature Park. From here you walk along the Mixnitzbach stream and then down the "Prügelweg" path to the entrance to the Bärenschützklamm gorge. The Bärenschützklamm is one of the most beautiful water-bearing rock gorges in Austria. A hike between untamed waterfalls and jagged rocks is a lasting experience: 109 bridges and 51 wooden ladders overcome a height of 350 m with a climb length of 1.4 kilometres. At the "Guter Hirte" (Good Shepherd) gorge exit point, you can take a break before heading up to the picturesque "Schüsserlbrunn" pilgrimage church, which nestles close to the rock face. The "Steirischer Jockl" right next to it has a wonderful terrace with a view - and snacks just as good! The last ascent leads steeply up to the Hochlantsch summit, at 1720 m the highest elevation in the Grazer Bergland. Then it's back down to the Teichalmsee lake, a round around the lake or through the Teichalm moor is the perfect end to this varied hike.

The Bärenschützklamm, the "Gute Hirte" and the "Steirischer Jockl" are open from the beginning of May to the end of October.

A trail maintenance fee of € 5.00 is payable at the entrance to the gorge (as of May 2020).
