Benedictine Abbey of Seckau
Since the 12th century, the icon of grace "Our Lady of Seckau" has been captivating visitors in the Romanesque basilica. The Romanesque grouping of crucifixes, the Habsburg mausoleum and the Seckau Apocalypse by Herbert Boeckl in the Angel Chapel are worth seeing, all of which can be visited and explained during a guided tour through the "World of the Monks". These guided tours take place from 01 May to the last Sunday in October daily at 11 am and 2 pm, while during the summer months they are also offered at 3:30 in July and August. Groups of course are welcome outside of opening hours during the year following pre-registration.
However, there is not only great interest in art and culture guided tours in Seckau, but many guests from at home and abroad are also interested in the award-winning distillery in the cellar and the guided tours offered there with tastings of Seckau abbey schnapps and liqueurs. A visit to the abbey shop as well as a stopover in the many restaurants in town or a hike on the Seckau high alpine meadows (high-altitude alpine meadow church "Maria Schnee" [Mary of the Snow]) complete the excursion.
