Once hiked and loved by Sisi, Empress Elisabeth of Austria-Hungary, today the Loser is an alpine sport and hiking centre in the Styrian Salzkammergut, especially for families. Mountain sports and nature lovers will find a fascinating natural gem on the panoramic road.
The ascent from the impressive mountain road (9 km) to the Loser mountain pasture at 1,600 m is spectacular. From the Loser plateau there are countless walking paths, hiking trails and mountain tours to some of the most important peaks and most beautiful outlooks in Salzkammergut.
The circular hiking trail Archduke John around the Augstsee is only a few minutes' walk from the Loser mountain pasture and invites you to a delightful hike along the glistening mountain lake. The view through the "Loser window", an unusual cliff formation, is incomparable and can be reached via a steep hiking trail in about 45 minutes.
