Enns Bike Tour - Through the world of mountains and water

The Enns, and especially the landscape through which they accompanied us on our tour, has many faces. Imposing mountains as a companion to the Enns, romantic valleys, rushing streams, idyllic villages and historic towns with beautiful centers and eventful history. This is what accompanies us on our way along the Enns to the Danube. An adventure between the Dachstein and the Lower Tauern, a journey through two national parks Gesäuse and Limestone Alps up to Reichraminger Hintergebirge (mountain range) and in the cities of Steyr and Enns, the latter being the oldest town in Austria.

There are spectacular mountain landscapes and personalities which we will meet along trip. What will impress us is how the cozy, quiet Enns in the Gesaeuse National Park will build into a roaring, raging river. As if she were angry that the valley is not wide enough. In the first section in the high alpine mountains the Enns plays as a companion, however becomes the main focus in the second part as ever quiet expectant waterway. As in a good literary work: after a traveling climax comes the gentle finale - through a landscape that enchants us with romantic cities, orchards and meadows until we can at the destination select the connection on the Danube Bike Tour, which brings us to Linz . There are unforgettable culinary and cultural impressions that are waiting for us.

Some highlights on the Enns, in brief: The start of almost 1,000 meters above sea level at the foot of the Low Tauern in Flachauwinkel. The impressive mountains and numerous lakes. The historic towns of Radstadt and Schladming with its lively sporting attractions. The imposing Grimmig which has long been touted as the highest mountain in Styria, and at his feet Trautenfels castle with wonderful exhibitions around culture and nature. A few kilometers further Admont Abbey at the entrance to the National Park Gesäuse with the largest Abbey Library in the world. And of course the old trading town of Steyr and Enns Austria's oldest city. Between the two stations, the Enns river forms the natural border between Upper and Lower Austria.

Our subsequent daily stages are proposed. You will see that so much beauty cannot be meticulously planned, and we will therefore give a tip or two, perhaps as a detour means, but will be worth seeing and experiencing. The specified altitude change includes all ascent and descent even the smallest ones – and even if it is only a few meters uphill for a distance of several hundred meters, which aren’t felt at all. An important note: The diversity of our journey requires the right "adjustment". Do not forget to pack your swimwear nor sturdy shoes, for example, during a stopover for a hike in the Schladming Tauern mountains or in one of the national parks.

Importantly, we give here a description of the Enns Cycle Path, but the real maps – which only partially replace the for example, "bike line Ennradweg" published by Esterbauer. Also, there are a number of variants along the way. To describe them all here would be too much.
