Leisurely circular route around Stein, mostly at high altitude or on a ridge. Scenic diversity meets Buschenschänken with "Wein-Rast-Platzln".

This circular route leads, as the name says, "around Stein". However, it does not go through the center of Stein but "all around". There is therefore a signpost from the inn in Stein - near the town center to the actual round. There is also a "feeder" from the thermal baths, which you follow back at the end of the loop. Despite these "circumstances", you should definitely have walked this path. One rarely has so many and so beautiful panoramic views as on this route. You are almost always on top of the hills and always enjoy new panoramic views of the diverse hill country in the region. Meadows, pumpkin fields, corn fields alternate with vineyards and mixed forests. In between, scattered fruit and always dear people. This is our region.

FROM VIENNA & LOWER AUSTRIA

By car: South freeway (A2) to exit Ilz/Fürstenfeld. From here via Fürstenfeld bypass to Bad Loipersdorf.

FROM GRAZ

By car: on the A2 motorway in the direction of Vienna as far as the Ilz/Fürstenfeld exit. From here via Fürstenfeld bypass to Bad Loipersdorf.

FROM WESTERN AUSTRIA AND BAVARIA

By car: via Salzburg on the Phyrn freeway (A9) and the Süd freeway (A2) or via Carinthia on the Süd freeway (A2) to the Ilz/Fürstenfeld exit. From here via Fürstenfeld bypass to Bad Loipersdorf.

FROM ITALY OR SLOVENIA

By car: via Villach on the southern freeway (A2) to the Ilz - Fürstenfeld - Bad Loipersdorf exit or via Maribor on the Phyrn freeway (A9) and the southern freeway (A2) in the direction of Vienna to the Ilz/Fürstenfeld exit. From here via Fürstenfeld bypass to Bad Loipersdorf.

THERMENLANDBUS

The Thermenland bus runs daily between Vienna and the Loipersdorf spa resort.

From the spa there is a "feeder" to the actual circular route. At the spa turn left in the direction of Hotel Stoiser and there vis a vis into the forest. In the Dornegg area you will reach the actual circular route. Through a piece of forest you reach the so-called Rehgraben. At the bottom of the valley look out for the markings (briefly right, then left). At a crossroads you meet the road towards Stein. Here turn left again and after about 200 m follow the road to the right. On roads with hardly any traffic you reach a hill with a beautiful panoramic view via serpentines and past orchards. Here the path continues to the left and after about 150 m you turn right into a short piece of forest. After that you go around a farmstead and then turn left. After about 500 m - after the first house on the right - the path goes up the field path past vineyards and reaches the highest point of the Stein district (375 m) at the water tank. Shortly after, you come back to the municipal road, which you follow to the right. Soon after, the signposts point to the left again into a dirt road. When you reach the road, continue to the right and follow this flat ridge road for about 2 km until you reach a crossroads. Here follow the road to the left. Downhill it goes about 1.5 km to the Steiner fish pond. Here you leave the road for about one kilometer and turn left after the pond along the disused quarry until you reach a road again. Follow the road to the right. You then come to a gravel road and after a short steep climb and past vineyards you reach the Dornegg area again, where the loop began. Here follow the road to the left and return to the spa the same way you came.

From the village of Stein, the "feeder road" is signposted from the inn.

The beauty of this trail is that you are very much on ridges on the way and thus always have new and wide views. Here the Styrian hill country shows itself in its most beautiful form.
