After attending elementary and secondary school, Herbert completed a 3-year apprenticeship as a skilled agricultural and forestry worker, after which he discovered a new hobby in 1979 with woodcarving. In the following years he developed his skills autodidactically and constantly, so that after initial religious and profane carvings, artistic and decorative carvings for every occasion were created.
Preferred wood species are lime and Swiss stone pine, whereas Swiss stone pine wood carvings are mostly left natural, whereas carvings with lime wood are mostly set. Gilding with gold leaf and setting with oil colors are part of the assortment of my artwork. All used woods are dried for several years.
