Mining tunnels as a special golfing tee
Around 1770, mining began in Maria Lankowitz in the rich lignite deposits discovered as early as 1606. The area of the former Piberstein coal mine, known for its high-quality "Piberstein coal", is now the site of the Erzherzog Johann golf course. A special golf tee was built in 2023 to commemorate mining in the region.
