The terrain has been skillfully used in constructing the Via Ferrata, as shown by two beautiful rope bridges and a couple of tricky passages across the rock walls. The Hias climbing route is close to the valley and easy to get to through the Silberkar Canyon.
The Silberkar hike offers a great day out for the whole family: some may enjoy hiking through the canyon, others might venture along the protected climbing path.
Arriving from the west:From the west you can take the Munich-Salzburg motorway, continuing on the Tauern motorway (A 10) until the Ennstal junction. From here take the Ennstal A-road (the B 320) for around 30 km into the Schladming-Dachstein region, then take the Ramsau am Dachstein turn-off.
Arriving from the north:From the south-east take the Pyhrnautobahn motorway (A 9) to the Liezen junction and then the Ennstal A-road (B 320) into the Schladming-Dachstein region. Then take the Ramsau am Dachstein turn-off.
Access: from the car park, walk up to the entrance of the Silberkar Canyon (maintenance fee for adults and children). Follow the path along the first wooden ladders until you reach a flat passage with a bench, yellow information board and rock blocks. From here, you’ll see the first rope bridge.
Descent: at the end of the Via Ferrata, follow the red markings. Take a left and hike back down to the canyon. Alternatively, take a right up to the Silberkarhütte and hike up to the entrance of the Via Ferrata Siega.
Please note: the canyon is privately owned by the Erlbacher family. The maintenance fee is used to repair the path after avalanches.
