Short hike through forest with Larch and Swiss Pine trees to Untersee Lake at Reiteralm. Wooden benches invite to stay for a while and to enjoy the scenery.

The trail to Untersee Lake is a beautiful easy hike for families. Starting at Reiteralmsee Lake the hike leads through a clear forest to Untersee Lake. On the way to the Lake you pass by two tarns, where wooden benches invite you to sit down and to enjoy the scenery for a bit. At Untersee Lake you can cross the lake on a wooden float and enjoy the scenery from a viewing platform. Around the lake, several wooden benches invite for a break at the lake. A couple of opportunites to play with the water are waiting for the kids as well.

Take Reiteralmstraße toll road to Gasselhöh'-Hütte on top of Reiteralm.

Trail head for this easy hike is the mountain terminal of Preunegg-Jet cable-car. From here you follow trail n° 66 passing by the lake. Walk across the alpine meadow into the clear forest and you will soon reach the turnoff (trail n° 66) for Untersee Lake.

Via a couple of switchbacks you hike downhill through the forest and reach a first small tarn which is called "Glackerch" by the locals. Further on through the clear forest you soon reach the next small tarn - the "Waldsee" Lake. An idyllic wooden bench invites for a short rest here.

After some minutes walk more you finally reach the Untersee Lake. For the way back take the same way. If you want to take an alternative route for the way back there is a trail that takes you from the lake up to the Reiteralm Alpine Loop. To reach this trail you follow the banks of the lake to the lakes' West end and from there continue uphill until the trail joins the trail n° 66.

We recommend to combine this hike with a tour on the Reiteralm Alpine Loop or the shorter tour to the Spiegelsee Lake.

Take the bus of Ramsauer Verkehrsbetriebe (Tuesday, Friday and Sunday) from Ramsau and Pichl-Vorberg to the valley terminal of Preunegg-Jet cable-car. From here continue by cable-car to Reiteralm (operating times at www.reiteralm.at).
