Murau - Frauenalpe (1,997m)
Open
A wonderful alpine hike with sweeping views of the Niedere Tauern, the Gurktaler Alpen and the Karawanken, commencing in the district capital and weaving up Murau's 1,997m local mountain.
The hiking tour takes us up above the historical old town of Murau to one of the most beautiful panoramic mountains in the Nockberge. Before the real ascent begins, there is a short detour to the delightfully idyllic Leonharditeich (pond) and Leonhardikirche (St. Leonhard Church), situated above the River Murau. The hiking trail towards the Frauenalpe begins its climb from the district of Schlatting not far from Murau train station. It runs mainly through forest, sometimes crossing the access road to the Frauenalpe, until reaching the Alpengasthof Krische (an alpine guest house) and the Murauerhütte (mountain hut), where we tackle the onward ascent over mountain pastures towards the summit. Here we find ourselves largely on the property of the princely family of Schwarzenberg, whose history has been intertwined with Murau for over 400 years.Discover the shorter variant up to the Frauenalpe summit, which is also suitable for families with children (starting from the Murauerhütte at 1,583m) here.

More information
From Murau-Schlatting, we follow a footpath uphill through the forest, several times crossing the road that winds upward from Murau to the Murauerhütte. At the Murauerhütte (1,583m), we continue hiking along long-distance hiking trail 132/109 in the direction of the Käsereihütte and past the Bernhard Fest Hütte until we reach the summit cross. At the peak /Trogscharte fork at 1,854m, we can walk approx. 250m towards the Trogscharte peak and refresh ourselves at the spring. Return via the route ascended.Alternatively, you can drive from Murau via the district of Schlatting (following the signs to Frauenalpe) to the Alpengasthof Krische or the Murauerhütte, and set off on a shorter hike from there (also suitable for children).
A good spot for a rest is the Apollonia Chapel, as it is sheltered from the wind.
