Kloepfer and local history museum
A visit to the former birthplace of the popular local poet and honorary citizen of Eibiswald becomes a "journey into the past" with more than 1200 exhibits. Local history and cultural history collections - among others old toys, peasant household goods from back then, an original "Rauchkuchl", interesting photos, pilgrimage souvenirs and the Kloepfer room.
The Eibiswalder Heimatmuseum - also called Kloepfermuseum - shows more than 1000 exhibits on 2 levels. An original rebuilt "Rauchkuchl" and a "Auszugstüberl" are gourmet pieces of the house, but the focus of the collection is old Koralpen glass. The glassmakers in the huts around the Koralpe, which existed from the 16th century until the 1920s, left behind pieces of work that still amaze us today: Cobalt blue goblets, cut Ferdinandsthal wedding bottles, gold ruby bottles, but also simple things intended for everyday use.
The house, baroque in its foundation walls, weightily situated at the beginning of the village, is the birthplace of the Styrian poet and doctor Hans Kloepfer. About his poetic work and his work as a folklorist and local historian - the latter often forgotten - informs the collection factual and knowledgeable.
