Heralded in the summer by broad, green fields resplendent in brilliant flecks of yellow, the southern-Styrian bounty then reveals itself in the autumn. With its gently nutty flavour, Styrian “Kürbiskernöl g.g.A.”, protected geographical indication oil extracted from the seeds of Styrian oil-pumpkins, adds refinement to salads, soups and indeed desserts. At the Haindl pumpkin seed oil mill, the seeds are carefully pressed to yield absolutely pure Styrian pumpkin seed oil PGI. This product has already been awarded a gold standard 16 times in succession and was given first place in the the Gault Millau 2014. The manageress of the business runs her baking courses devotedly and takes care of bread-making. From September to May she runs weekly bread-making and cookery courses (“sterz” / polenta speciality).
