This oldest church in Bruck goes back to the foundation of the Archdiocese of Salzburg in the 9th century. At that time it was probably a wooden church that belonged to the Carolingian King Ludwig, the German, who gave this manor to the Archbishop of Salzburg in 860.
In the 12th century the church of St. Ruprecht was named as a parish church. It remained so until 1545, when the Church of Our Lady became the parish church.
Simple and inconspicuous on the outside, there are art historical treasures inside the church. At its core, it is a Romanesque choir tower church with a late Gothic choir, a two-aisled nave and a baroque tower.
The greatest treasure is probably the almost completely preserved depiction of the Last Judgment from 1416, which is attributed to the school of the Bruck Minorite Master. The fresco "Last Judgment" was commissioned by the provost and archpriest Oelhaben von Thurego. With an area of 45 m² it is the largest contiguous fresco from this period. The representation can be described as popular and biased. The fresco was discovered in 1937 by the academic painter and former professor Edmund Stierschneider at the Bruck secondary school. After examining important art historians from home and abroad, Provost Dr. Thier commissioned Professor Stierschneider to uncover the fresco. Six layers of limestone were removed, cleaned and restored. No additions were made. With its 600 years it is in its original condition and makes the work even more valuable.
On the south wall of the branch church there is a representation of two male and one female saints who are holding their heads in their hands. In the tower square you can marvel at the Romanesque vault painting.
In the northern Absis one discovers a late Gothic tendril painting from the 2nd half of the 15th century. The high altar with twisted columns covered with vine leaves and a blown gable dates from 1680.
The Romanesque Karner north of the church is also remarkable. The round building with a round apse, domed vault and octagonal Gothic attic has been a war memorial chapel since 1931. In addition, the church cemetery has several important late historical grave structures.
