Castle Deutschlandsberg

Deutschlandsberg

The castle of "Lonspercher" is a landmark of Deutschlandsberg, the view in itself is worth it.

Especially rewarding is visiting the Archeo Norico Castle Museum, where the former residential and representative buildings of the Deutschlandsberg Castle are adjacent to it.

The findings during numerous excavations in the castle area, such as stone tools and typical ceramics, underline the importance of the settlement site for prehistoric people.
Detailed excavation reports provide an insight into the history of the Deutschlandsberg Castle.

The elaborate renovation work on the completely ruinous Romanesque-Gothic core castle began in 1979 under Mayor Zingler, and the castle is currently being expanded into a national museum center under Mayor Josef Wallner.

The spur-like castle rock, a naturally protected place with extensive visual connections, has been populated by humans since the Neolithic period (5th millennium BC). Significant phases of expansion and reconstruction of the Deutschlandsberg Castle date from the Romanesque, Gothic and Renaissance periods.
