Teichalm - Round Trip with Moorlehrpfad

Open

A leisurely round on the Teichalm in the Almenland Nature Park in Styria - with the Teichalmsee and with the moor nature trail.

This is the ideal tour for those who don't really want to "hike", but still want to experience the most famous part of the Almenland Nature Park! The tour starts on the Teichalm at the Holzochsen, the landmark of the beef region Almenland. Then it goes out over soft alpine pastures to the GH Holzmeister.  The trail also passes the Harrerhütte, the last alpine dairy in eastern Styria. Finally, a round around the lake and a walk on the newly designed Lärchenplanken-Schauweg through the Teichalmmoor. A beautiful trail without major climbs, but still with beautiful views and always near a place to stop for refreshments!

Shortcuts:

from the Teichalm to the Harrerhütte and from there back or

only around the Teichalmsee and through the high moor, this path is also suitable for baby carriages and wheelchairs.

ATTENTION: The path through the Teichalm moor is closed in winter, the path is expected to open again in April.

All info for the journey

  • We start at the Holzochsen, directly at the lake, a marked connecting path leads up to trail no. 745.
  • Continue on trail no. 745 out to the right in the direction of Sommeralm until you reach GH Holzmeister, the turnaround point.
  • Back to the Teichalm we go on the other side of the road. We cross the pasture, climb over the Mixnitzbach and then walk along the forest.
  • Via a forest path we reach the Harrerhütte.
  • Now we cross the Sommeralmstraße and walk through the pasture and over the footbridge up to trail no. 745.
  • Follow trail no. 745 up to the Pierer Hotel.- We keep to the left, after the hotel parking lot a marked footpath (trail no. 17) leads to the right back down to the Htl. Teichwirt or the Teichalmsee.
  • The entrance to the moor nature trail is right by the mountain pine hut.
  • The path across the larch slopes through the high moor ends again at the wooden ox at the lake.

In the Harrerhütte you can get fresh buttermilk with huckleberries or a loaf of bread with cheese from the own alpine dairy. And with a lot of luck you can get hold of a piece of real alpine butter.
