Weißkirchen

Weißkirchen is a market town in Upper Styria in the district of Murtal.

On 1 January 2015, the village was united with the three other communities of Eppenstein, Maria Buch-Feistritz and Reisstraße. The earliest written record is from 1066 and reads "Wizinchiricha". The village is located at the junction of the Gaberl Straße B 77 and the Obdacher Straße B 78 in the centre of the Murboden on an alluvial cone of the Granitzenbach. It developed between the estates and mills of the surrounding dominions of Eppenstein, Thann and Liechtenstein. The market elevation took place in 1453. The political municipality of Weißkirchen was established in 1849/50,[5] in 1951 the name was changed to Weißkirchen in Steiermark. The appearance of the village is well preserved. The mostly two-storey houses are mostly built with the eaves facing the street. Parts of the market were destroyed several times by floods and fires. Therefore, many of the façades date from the 19th century.
