Winter activities in the Murtal

Snow bunnies are in seventh heaven in the Murtal. Life live at a faster pace while skiing, toboganning and touring, and at a slower pace while cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. Feel the heartbeat of the Murtal as the snow crunches under your feet, and marvel at the landscapes thickly blanketed in snow.

ICE SKATING IN THE MURTAL

Ice skating is another fun activity. Glide across countless ice rinks: some are situated in town centres, like in Knittelfeld, while some are surrounded by mountains and verdant forests, like in Hohentauern, Gaal or Seckau.

You don't need to be particularly fit, but you'll need a good eye and good technique to get as close to the "Taube" ‒ a wooden disc ‒ as possible using your ice stock. The rules are easy to learn.

And if it's a bit frosty, the Glühwein will simply be served outside and enjoyed right by the ice.

tobogganing with the fun factor

There's a special kind of joy associated with tobogganing. What could be more fun than dashing down the mountain roads on a toboggan ride with the whole family, having feasted on a hearty snack in a cosy chalet inn? There are many tempting mountain restaurants that also offer wonderful sledding options day or night. A classic winter experience in the Murtal that is hard to beat.

WINTER ACTIVE

What could be cosier than unwinding in soothing warm water while the snow falls thickly outside? The Aqualuxtherme in Fohnsdorf offers rest and relaxation for adults, and fun and adventure for children.

Sporty visitors can head for the spa sports pool, or perhaps the other indoor pools in the region. Or how about a game of tennis or squash? You'll quickly forget the dreary weather over an exciting match. But perhaps you prefer a quieter kind of ball sport? The bowls centre, bowling alleys and pool tables will help you while away a few merry hours in good company.

Fun and adventure are also guaranteed at Austria's largest indoor family park, Playworld. Bounce around in the jump zone, play a thrilling game of laser tag or simply spend some entertaining moments at the play area with your little ones.

Austria's most state-of-the-art indoor 5D blacklight minigolf complex is also situated in the heart of Styria, in the Murtal. See, smell and hear the game as you sink your golf balls in a range of extraordinary 3D worlds.
