The Murau region delights summer holidaymakers of all ages with a diverse range of activities. It’s not just hikers and cyclists who get their money's worth in the Murau region. If you want to go fishing at the green Mur, then the Bodendorf and St. Georgen reservoirs are the places to go. On a 2.5-kilometre stretch of river, you’ll have a good chance that brown and rainbow trout will bite. Fishing maps are available at the Kreischberg information office.
An alternative: The Rottenmanner Teich is about three hectares in size and lies about seven kilometres from Murau. Fishing permits are available directly at the pond.

What’s more, you’ll feel right at home in the specialised hotels, and numerous restaurants invite you to stop for a bite to eat.
Since the mid-1980s, rafting has become an increasingly popular leisure activity in Central Europe. Rafters travel down a river in an inflatable boat, and there is room for two to twelve people in the rafts. Thanks to the now highly developed safety measures, rafting is a refreshing, action-packed and safe experience.
If you have never tried rafting before, you should definitely give the sport a try while on holiday in the Murau region. Supervisors and state-certified rafting guides are on hand to assist you in safely enjoying this water sport.
Good to know: All equipment can be rented at Murtalerhof in Stadl an der Mur. All you need to bring is swimwear and a towel. From June to September, exciting tours take place daily from 9:30 to 13:30.

In the Murau region, there are three 3D archery parks where excursionists can familiarise themselves with the leisure activity or perfect their skills. At the course, you’ll encounter lifelike 3D animals.
At romantic Schattensee lake – an enchanting moorland lake situated at 1,317 metres above sea level – visitors can put their aiming skills to the test during the traditional water shoot. The activity is possible from June to October and in groups of 25 or more.
