Magnesitwanderweg Veitsch

Open
The magnesite hiking trail leads those interested through the history of magnesite mining in the Veitsch.
The starting point of our hike is the fire station parking lot in Dorfveitsch. From here we take the path to the pilgrim cross and continue to the Sattlerbauer. Our tour leads us further to the 6th quarry floor and subsequently to the Lercher farmer and Lerchegger. Following we hike through the Roßeckgraben, past the Tullnbacher-Bauer and Lederer-Hof to the memorial stone at the Dürrkogel. Soon after we reach the Karner farmer via the forest road and finally via the Zwertlesgraben to the Proschenhof. Via the Klein-Veitsch road we reach the starting point again, the fire station parking lot in Dorfveitsch.

More information

S6 Semmering expressway, exit Mitterdorf. At the traffic circle exit Veitsch. Now follow the road into the Veitsch valley until the turn-off Dorfveitsch.
The start of our hike is the fire station parking lot in Dorfveitsch. From here we walk through the park in the direction of the church. Passing the main entrance on the left, we now take a serpentine path to the Veitscher pilgrim cross. Now the path leads us slightly downhill to the Sattlerbauer. A little steeper uphill we continue until we reach the Lercherstraße. Now we can easily turn left after the crossing onto the old serpentine quarry path. In the deciduous forest it goes up for us on the edge of the quarry floors up to the 6th floor. If we prefer to follow the marked route along the road, we branch off immediately before the large steep meadow slopes onto the hiking trail on the left. In this way, we also reach the 'Sechser' on a narrow, steep path. Then we continue on the Sattlerkogel to the Naturfreunde Gedenkstäte Adolf Holl (one of the founders of the Naturfreunde Veitsch). It goes on for us: to the Lercher farmer. A gravel road then leads us slightly uphill to the Lerchegger. A forest road now leads us through the Roßeckgraben, past the Tullnbacher-Bauer. We finally arrive above the Lederer farm via a forest road to a forest path that leads to the Dürrkogel. Here we find a memorial stone that reminds us of the first discovery of a magnesite rock in 1881 by Carl Spaeter. Shortly after, we get back to a forest road that leads to the asphalt road and then to Karnerbauern. On this asphalt road we walk through the Zwertlesgraben to the Proschenhof. We are now on the Klein-Veitsch road, which leads us back to the starting point of the hike, the fire station parking lot in Dorfveitsch.
Visit the pilgrim cross on the Veitscher Ölberg! It is the world's highest wooden cross and walkable inside. The 'Kreuzeck', a culinary resting place is open Wednesday to Friday from 1 pm, Saturday, Sunday and holiday from 10:00 am. Further refreshment possibilities at the farms along the way.

Another tip: at the "Naturfreunde-Gedänkstätte" Adolf Holl there is a wonderful view of Hohe Veitsch!
