Stage 18 From Glacier to Wine North Route Neuberg an der Mürz - Schneealm

Starting at the Neuberger Münster (Tourist Information Tel. +43 3857 8321), we first walk for a very short distance in a northerly direction / Mürzsteg along the main road in order to reach the Karlgraben after a few meters via the "Ortsteil Schlapfen" and the Rudolfsteig, where we now follow trail 441, always leading partly steeply uphill. Passing the Karleck, which is on the left, we come to a crossroads, where we first keep to the left to meet a little more than 1 km later the 01-er Nordalpenweg, which we have already encountered on some stages of our hiking route "From glacier to wine". Here we keep to the right in an easterly direction to climb the Windberg, the highest elevation of the Schneealm. The wonderful panorama compensates for the often quite strong wind - nomen est omen - that greets us here at the summit.

Afterwards we descend slightly to the Schneealm plateau, where three huts, the Michlbauerhütte (Tel. +43 664 9235900), the Schneealpenhaus (Tel. +43 3857 2190 or +43 664 2495353) and the Lurgbauerhütte (Tel. +43 676 6335456) invite us to stop. Not only do they feature wonderful culinary nature park specialties on their menus, but they also all offer overnight accommodations. The first two are located in the immediate vicinity at the foot of the Windberg, the Lurgbauerhütte is already just over 3 km from the Schneealpenhaus on the next stage up the Rax.
