Mit dem Bus zum Berg - Überschreitung der Hohen Veitsch

Open
A traverse of the Hohe Veitsch on the "wrong" side, namely the north. Ideal for mountain hikers who are looking for something special, alpine pastures, alpine paths, a magnificent panoramic peak and the Meranhaus make the tour an unforgettable mountain experience in the Hochsteiermark. Part of the tour also moves on the BergZeitReise as well as on the Styria-wide tour "vom Gletscher zum Wein".
From Mürzsteg the trail leads, mostly lonely and off the beaten track, to the Kleinveitschalm and further across the plateau to the summit of the Hohe Veitsch (orientation difficult in fog!). From there follows a short detour to the cozy Meranhaus, before it goes over the Sohlenalm down to Niederalpl.

More information

From Mürzsteg our ascent leads first in a southerly direction to the Kleinveitschalm (usually open in summer). Now our path turns to the west and leads us in steady ups and downs over the plateau (in fog orientation difficult!) to the Graf Meran - Schutzhaus or directly to the summit of the Hohe Veitsch.

From here it goes north downhill over the Gingatzwiese and, past the Wetsflanke of the Wildkamm, to the Sohlenalm. From there it is no longer far to Niederalpl.

In the upper Mürztal there are several interesting sights such as the Neuberg Abbey, the glassblowing workshop in the Kaiserhof, the Neuberg Nature Museum with the Schliefsteiner collection or the world's largest spinning wheel in Kapellen. Also the new climate change path in Altenberg / Rax, the waterfall to the Dead Woman at Mürzsteg / Frein or the show tunnel at the Mürzufer / Krampen are highly recommended as excursion destinations.
