Ramsau am Dachstein
A holiday in Ramsau am Dachstein means re-energising. In front of the picture book panorama of the south face of the Dachstein, between 1,000 and 3,000 metres, lies the sunny plateau of Ramsau am Dachstein. Simply everything is on the programme the whole year round - on "three levels": at 1,100 m, 1,700 m and right on the glacier at 2,700 metres above sea level. Hiking, mountainbiking, climbing, swimming, cross-country skiing, riding, Nordic walking - and really good eating.
However, it is no problem if you are fond of treading the Alpine boards! The four-mountain ski resort (Planai, Hochwurzen, Hauser Kaibling and Reiteralm) is only a stone's throw away - and with it the busy world championship host region of Ramsau with its cross-country skiing trails. While we are on the subject, even if you are not doing sport on the glacier, there are other sensations up here: for those that dare, there is the Skywalk, a glass-bottomed viewing plateau (you do rock about in the lofty heights) and the ice palace on the other side. The giant ice sculptures in the grandiose porticoed palace are a must for young and old.
