St. Ulrich Cultural Center

St. Ulrich im Greith | Michael Szyszkowitz + Karla Kowalski (2000)

An example of the vigour of rural artistry! A local cultural association initiated the
building of a cultural centre designed by architects known for their expressiveness
– as exponents of the ‘Graz School’. The orthogonal multi-purpose hall is ‘earthed’
with four fortress-like abutments, a bastion for the sake of art! The staggered
arrangement of the platforms recalls the inclined location of the structure. Narrow
horizontal bands of light and the warm hue of the wood in combination with red
lend an impressive atmosphere to the hall.
